Unicorn Play Club Sickness and Exclusion Policy
Purpose
This policy provides clear guidance on how we manage situations when a child is unwell. To protect the health and well-being of all children, we ask that children do not attend sessions if they are sick. This helps the child recover and reduces the risk of spreading illness to others.
In some cases, the decision about whether a child can attend will be made individually. The Unicorn Play Club management reserves the right to refuse entry to any child who is unwell.

Policy Details
At Unicorn Play Club, we strive to maintain a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for every child. We take steps to minimise the chance of infections spreading between children during our sessions.
We strictly adhere to public health guidance on infectious diseases. If a child has a contagious illness listed by health authorities, they will not be allowed to attend until they are fully recovered.
If a child falls ill during a session, we will contact their parent or guardian immediately to arrange for them to be picked up.
For illnesses such as vomiting or diarrhoea, children must remain at home for at least 48 hours after symptoms have stopped before returning to the club.
If an infectious illness is detected among the children, we will notify all parents so they can monitor their own child for symptoms. Any toys, equipment, or surfaces that the sick child may have touched will be cleaned thoroughly to help prevent the spread of infection.
Children who are just beginning to recover and are on a course of antibiotics should not attend sessions until they are feeling well enough to participate fully in group activities. Please note that staff at Unicorn Play Club will not administer any medication, including antibiotics, to children during sessions.

Emergency Medical Procedures
If a child has a serious accident or becomes very unwell during a session, we will call for an ambulance immediately.
While waiting for medical help to arrive, we will contact the child’s parent or guardian. Arrangements will be made for them to meet the child either at the hospital or back at the club, whichever is more suitable.
A member of Unicorn Play Club staff will accompany the child to the hospital, bringing with them any relevant medical information, medication, and items necessary until the parent or guardian arrives.
